About Us

In late March 2005 a few members of the San Francisco A.A. fellowship began investigating the feasibility of holding A.A. meetings on the phone using teleconference telephone technology: the project was soon named The Recovery Bridge Community. As the project evolved, The Recovery Bridge Community became a recovery-related "club" that rents meeting space to A.A. and other recovery programs over teleconference telephone lines.

Here's some background: one of the founders of The Recovery Bridge Community works as a Management Consultant, and Business and Personal Coach, and in those roles he participates in many teleconference calls. The way in which he signs-up for and attends these teleconference calls provided us with the model and inspiration to offer A.A. and/or other recovery meetings over the phone.

To attend any of these teleconference calls, some are called teleclasses, only takes a simple and easy four (4) steps.

1. Use an internet search engine, like Google or Yahoo, to search for a topic you are interested in (e.g., A.A. Meetings or Alcoholics Anonymous or Sobriety), and then logon to the web site that offers the training or discussion that interests you.

2. On the web site, find the meeting or training schedule and look over the schedule list to decide which teleclass or conference call both (a) fits your schedule and (b) fulfills what you want to learn or discuss, and then choose how you will pay for the teleclass (usually through PayPal or a similar online shopping cart or payment processing system).

3. In response to your request, you will then receive an e-mail from the web site confirming your enrollment in the teleconference/teleclass. The confirmation e-mail includes the phone number that you will call when the time for the teleconference/teleclass arrives. [NOTE: The phone number is usually in an area code different from the one in which you reside so long distance charges apply when you call from your home or office phone but we have learned that many cell phone service providers include unlimited long distance calling within the U.S. The complicating factor here is that cell phone service can be noisy and erratic, so we usually choose to pay the long distance telephone charge.]

4. At the scheduled time for the teleclass or conference call, call the area code and telephone number that was provided in the e-mail, and you are immediately connected to the call. At the end of the call, just hang-up like any other telephone call. End of story ... Very easy!

So, we looked into whether A.A. meetings could be provided in the same way. The costs associated with providing meetings over teleconference bridge lines and announced through a web site are low. With what we see, here in the San Francisco Bay Area as the seemingly universal use of cell phones and the increased use of teleconferencing and video conferencing, offering A.A. meetings over a teleconference bridge line seems like an inevitable next step in making recovery meetings more available and convenient.

The Recovery Bridge Community serves the North America and worldwide recovery community. The Recovery Bridge Community began holding Monday-Friday meetings on Monday May 16, 2005. We invite you to attend any or all of the meetings listed on our home page. And, we encourage you to send us your comments, observations, suggestions and recommendations for improvement.

Warm Regards,
The Founders of The Recovery Bridge Community
